Couples Night

Well we had our first couples night last Saturday. A total of eight couples came to dinner and seven couples went to the movie afterward ( a total of about 12 couples all together!)Correct me if Im wrong-unless Im getting paid, my math is not so good. I am so excited that there was such a great turn out!! There are a few things I would do differently for next time...One is dinner will definatly have to be earlier for those who want to eat-at a restaurant that takes reservations!WE went to Red Lobster and it was very packed, but cozy and we all had a great time. About the movie... Im really not sure that I recommend Fireproof. I felt it was very preachy and had a old school traditional view of salvation. I almost got nauseous when the dad started talking about how God's standards were so high that we could never reach them and thats why we need forgiveness...What the heck??? I was filtering it extra critically because I know that one of the couples does not know God and I was so dissapointed in how the movie portrayed our awesome God....The salvation message aside, it was a beautiful depiction of what real unconditional love would look like if you started to place it in your marriage. Although Christians still struggle with looking at porn, and nonChristians can still have a great marriage- I felt like for those of us who do believe and still struggle in marriage it was motivational. I would love for some of you to comment back because like I said, my view was a little tainted because I was so worried about what the couple who didn't know God was thinking. I cant wait until Enjoy magazine comes out for october to see what we can do this next month for couples night. I was thinking of going to Hawes Ranch....Nothing says romance like a big cotten candy and a moonlight ride on the cow train through the corn fields. Right? I will try to get kid care provided if you want to go as a date or we can be family friendly this next month.Let me know what you guys would like to see for couples night in the next few months. And if any one is picking up a copy of The Love Dare-let me know how it goes...around day 20.
Love you all, thanks for comming

Social Fog

I realized something last week. (amazing I know)
We, as women (maybe not you, but several that I have talked to) , tend to feel as though we are on the outside looking in at everyone.
I thought I was so alone in that feeling, with everyone else having these friends so close, and millions of things in common, and very full social schedules with all their friends pining for their every second....Talking with some girls, whom I thought fit these descriptions, I realized that this is not the case. We are in fact, a lonely generation after all!
I have been in hiding, a strange place for an outspoken itallian-ish girl. It has felt uneasy, like a fog. The less I put my self out there socially, the less I felt like trying. I don't even know that girl who greeted everyone when we first moved as a church. I have had to really claw spiritually and emotionally to get out of that fog. Things are still a little hazy, but a lot clearer in the sense that I will continue to reach for people like I have and maybe it will feel natural again, like it used to. It's interesting though, does it happen when we grow up and realize that we can't be everyone's friend, or something happens and we stop trying, or should we chalk it up to "social anxiety" and allow it to enfold us? The last seems the only clear no. Otherwise I have no answer but to fight it because it doesn't feel good. We should all reach out a little, I know that I appreciate those who did to me.

Pillar

As I stood this Sunday for worship, silent and still, I realized that I was standing for something more than the worship. It was during a song that spoke of God being worthy of praise that the strength I felt on my heart was put into words.
I was standing as a testimony to the enemy that no matter what he does to pull me down, no matter what this life does to me, I will stand. I will stand for God as a pillar of His strength alone as mine tapped out a long time ago. Things are not easy to say the least, sad things happen all around me every day and I become tired, sore to the hurts I see, and to the ones that happen to me as well. I am standing here bathed in His mercies, soaked in his love, telling the world that through all of these times God is truly still worthy to be praised.
The music played on, the darkened room filled with praises and singing resounded all around me. The silence that played on my heart was comforting and beautiful, louder than even the music. A delcaration to my God. A silent stance against the burdens of this earth.
I am still here.
